Although Mumbai producer Chaitanya Adate aka Chaitxnya started off playing the keyboard and harmonium and was also part of his school’s orchestra, in 2012 his interests changed. He says, “I heard Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ and I was so obsessed with EDM. I was curious to know how it’s made.” That’s when he began learning about the genre while also releasing beats on music platform Bandcamp.
Chaitxnya has since taken down his previously released music except for the single “Wonderland,” which he dropped earlier this year. “I took them down to start fresh,” he says. Recently, the producer also showcased his versatility as a producer with the distribution of his six-track debut EP Nothing Under the Stars.
The fizzy new record is filled with electro-pop elements, dancey escapism as well as vocalists from across the globe. Chaitxnya says, “I met those vocalists on a [messaging/broadcasting platform] Discord server. These people had uploaded their raw vocals and I loved those vocals and started working on it.” With the EP receiving attention from seasoned Indian producers such as Ritviz, Mojojojo and Lost Stories, things are looking bright for the young artist.
The lockdown proved to be difficult for Chaitxnya as he developed anxiety during this time. However, he turned to music for healing and readied his next single, a lo-fi ambient song called “Overthinking.” He says, “I have produced and written the track.”
